Dept. of Now Playing
Still the best live set ever, made even better by the additional material. Tho', I have to say that the original picks were stone-cold classic performances, sequenced just right. This is my seminal music epiphany (euphony?)- the one record that made me want to pick up a guitar and have a go at it myself. Also, in the weird world of rural Nebraska, it cost me two girlfriends, to quote one- "This is weird. Ghod, you're such a freak. Put on some Journey and take me home."
Twenty-odd years later and it still sounds as fresh and startling as it did when I first popped into my Turbo Trans Am's cassette deck. David Byrne and Adrian Belew are ON FIRE throughout, with Byrne's underrated, textural, guitar playing lighting up disc one and Belew soloing wildly all over disc 2. After hearing this I went right out and get myself a Stratocaster, Byrne and Belew's axe of choice. I've still got it, as a matter of fact. |
In the car, on iTunes and in my head:
