TINIAN -- They found prehistoric pottery shards, they found centuries-old chunks of stone tools, they even found bits of broken beer bottles, but they didn't find the bones of a famous lost aviator -- or not yet anyway.

And the Tinian Earhart Expedition members haven't given up hope. A team of more than two dozen archaeologists, anthropologists, historians, government officials, documentarians, and University of Guam students spent the day yesterday sifting through dirt in hopes of solving one of the greatest mysteries of the last century: the ultimate fate of famed pilot Amelia Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan.
