The Bush-Ratzi Axis of Evil (worth the ad, BTW)

President Bush treated his final visit with Pope John Paul II in Vatican City on June 4, 2004, as a campaign stop. After enduring a public rebuke from the pope about the Iraq war, Bush lobbied Vatican officials to help him win the election. "Not all the American bishops are with me," he complained, according to the National Catholic Reporter. He pleaded with the Vatican to pressure the bishops to step up their activism against abortion and gay marriage in the states during the campaign season.

About a week later, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger sent a letter to the U.S. bishops, pronouncing that those Catholics who were pro-choice on abortion were committing a "grave sin" and must be denied Communion. He pointedly mentioned "the case of a Catholic politician consistently campaigning and voting for permissive abortion and euthanasia laws" -- an obvious reference to John Kerry, the Democratic candidate and a Roman Catholic. If such a Catholic politician sought Communion, Ratzinger wrote, priests must be ordered to "refuse to distribute it." Any Catholic who voted for this "Catholic politician," he continued, "would be guilty of formal cooperation in evil and so unworthy to present himself for Holy Communion." During the closing weeks of the campaign, a pastoral letter was read from pulpits in Catholic churches repeating the ominous suggestion of excommunication. Voting for the Democrat was nothing less than consorting with the forces of Satan, collaboration with "evil."

A picture named marble_kitty.jpgMarble needs a home- STAT!!!!

Time is running short for this gorgeous kitty, so if you live anywhere in eastern Nebraska, or adjacent states, and you like kitties, Marble's your gal. Shy cats in shelters turn out to be the best cats- Bob and Scooter are shining examples. They're both great, friendly, loving cats.

Dept. of Waste Disposal

A picture named champ_toilet.jpgWe need one of those Champion toilets here at Bobbington Manor, STAT!

American Standard Flushes 24 Golf Balls to Test New Kind of Toilet. If you think that bathrooms are standardized, low-tech places, walk through American Standard's cavernous two-year-old design center. By By CLAUDIA H. DEUTSCH. [NYT > Science]

In one room, 12 toilets are flushing as if under ghostly control; an electronic machine is pulling the virtual levers - and manipulating water temperature and pressure as well. In smaller rooms nearby, one man is alternately flushing cylinders of miso paste, wadded-up paper, and as many as 24 golf balls at a time, while another is inspecting different glazes on ceramic tiles.

It should laugh at our kitty clumps!!!

Dept. of Rants

A picture named al_swearengen.jpgTeeVee Rant:

So, I'm watching Colonial House on PBS.

This shit pisses me off to no end. I think PBS should do Indian Teepee or something, where a bunch of white yuppies are put out on the Great Plains, set upon by smallpox and cholera and systematically slaughtered by men who do not speak their language and who rape their women. Now that would be true to life reality teevee.

Or at least make the bloody Colonial House actually face the genuine hardships of that existence. Have them do battle with angry aborigines- see the anguish of a mother who's lost her husband to a native raid; follow the rapidly deteriorating mental health of the man who saw his mother raped and scalped and then gutted and buggered the "savages" who did the deed. Watch the fear spread across an old woman's face as the fires of a witch burning spread across her bodice! C'mon, PBS!!! Let's really see how our neighbors would survive in the real 17th century!

Thank fucking God for Deadwood where the full load of shit in this world's pants is revealed to be the goddamned mother of all we fuckin' revere in this falsely sterile world of pain thrice re-fucking-moved.

Thus endeth the rant.

Don't forget to PARTICIPATE IN MY READER SURVEY!
