Dept. of Glee

Reyhan Harmanci (and some other SF Chronicle critics) presents us with a cure for the glum points in any day:

"Solla Solla Enna Perumai," 3:30: This one first started making the e-mail forward rounds many months ago, but for me it has stood the test of time. "Solla Solla Enna Perumai," part of a 1981 Bollywood film titled "Ellam Inba Mayam" (according to the YouTube poster), tells a powerful story about a man wearing gold shoes and a short gold vest who takes over a cocktail party on the strength of his hips alone. They shake! They tease! They taunt! He grabs the hottie in the lime green dress and jumps off the balcony, all to the delight of the backing band and the crowd. The joyfulness of the dance and the incredibly catchy music cut through any ironic appreciation of this clip -- beyond the kitsch, it is inspiring. When my friend Amber sent it to me, she commented that she watches it every time she feels down at work. I do the same.

C'mon, get happy!
