Dept. of Doomed To Repeats Apparently, even the history books are having a writers' strike, as it seems the US is repeating a bit of its own history. Only this time, the civil war comes after the insurgency. Books Of the Times: A Long Surrender: The Guerrilla War After the Civil War. This impassioned account of Southern resistance to Reconstruction reminds us that while the North won the Civil War in 1865, the peace would be lost, done in by Southern intransigence and Northern apathy.
